Mick Hunt: Hey, everybody. Welcome to the inaugural episode of Mick Unplugged, the power of Because. I'm Mick Hunt. And today, we're diving deep into a journey that transcends the power of why and ventures into the realm of because. You've probably heard of Simon Sinek's groundbreaking concept of start with why.
It's a philosophy that's illuminated our understanding of motivation and purpose. But today, we're taking a step beyond why in getting to know our because. Here's something I want you to ponder. Why is the question. But because, that's your reason.
It's the difference between dreaming of a destination and actually driving there. Why can point you to the top of the mountain peak, but your because? That's that relentless drive, that relentless energy, that relentless reason that actually gets you there. So this podcast, this is for the dreamers who dare to do for the leaders who look beyond the horizon and for every single soul who's yearning to make their own mark in this world. We're here to explore not just the reasons behind our ambitions, but that burning passion that fuels them.
Today, we're not just talking about finding your purpose. We're exploring how to activate it. How to turn your why into a resounding because. We'll delve into why why isn't enough and how because becomes the ultimate answer, the ultimate reason to all of your quest. This episode is your first step towards a journey that will change the trajectory of your life and your career.
So get ready to uncover your because to fuel your journey and to transform your world into ways that you've never imagined. Let's start by talking about the power of because. So imagine standing at a crossroads where every path is a different possibility and every turn is an opportunity. This is where your why has brought you. It's given you the map.
It's shown you the roads less traveled and all the avenues of potential. But now, you actually need fuel to move forward. That fuel, that reason, that's your because. Because is more than a motivator. It's the essence of purpose that turns thoughts into actions.
It's the difference between dreaming of a goal or dreaming of a vision and actually living it. Remember, while why makes us think, maybe because makes us act. It's the difference between understanding that path and actually walking that path. Think about the times that you felt unstoppable. The moments where no challenge was too big.
No obstacle was too daunting. That wasn't just motivation. That was your because in action. It's a powerful force. It's an internal drive that pushes you beyond limits and beyond doubts.
In business, in life, in the pursuit of success, because is your unwavering companion. It's the whisper in your ear when the world is telling you that you can't, That's telling you you can and you will. It's not just about having a reason. It's about having conviction. So how do we incorporate because into our daily life?
How do we really take this energy that we feel, this reason that we have, our true because, and how do we turn that into something tangible? So first thing I need you to do is understand that because isn't just found. It's cultivated. So start by reflecting on your past victories, those moments of pure joy, and even your struggles. Look for the common thread that ties these experiences together.
That thread, that's your because. That's your reason. It's been there all along. It's been guiding you subtly. Identifying your because is like uncovering your hidden script.
I'm a say that again. Identifying your because is like uncovering your hidden script of life, written by your deepest motivations. So incorporate your because into your daily routine. It's really easy to think about it once a month, once a week. But those people that get it, the businesses that are successful, the people that really change their lives because becomes a daily habit.
So set goals that not only just align with your because of what you want to achieve, but why do you wanna achieve that? How do you wanna achieve it? Your foundation should be your because. The second thing is make your because visible. Write it down.
Put it on a wall. Make it your phone wallpaper. Whatever your because is, whatever your reason for what you do or where you wanna go, you gotta see it every day. Because I always say, if you can see it, it can happen. If you can see it, you can be it.
So let it be the first thing that you see every morning and the last thing that you think about at night. 3rd thing, seek out opportunities that resonate with your because. This could be in your career. This could be in your personal growth, or this could even be in your community. When your actions are aligned with your because, you'll find a sense of fulfillment that goes far beyond success.
And finally, share your because with others. That's called accountability. In doing so, you not only affirm it to yourself, but you can also inspire others to find and embrace their because. So let's talk through some personal reflections here. So let's step outside and step into the real world because because is a real thing.
It's not just a concept. It's a catalyst for extraordinary change. So I'm gonna talk about some people that I know very well. I'm gonna talk about my friend, Sarah. She's a young entrepreneur whose dream was to start her own business.
Her why was clear. She wanted to be her own boss. But it was her because. Her desire to create a legacy for her daughter that transformed her from being a dreamer into a doer. Her because, her reason, gave her the courage to take risk, the strength to overcome setbacks, and the resilience to build a thriving business.
Today, Sarah has a multimillion dollar business that started with just a dream, but the because was the action that got there. And I know there are a lot of Sarah's out there. You're thinking about starting that business. You've got the dream, but you've never taken that step forward. Think about your, because if you really have a reason it's going to happen.
You tell me about my buddy, Alex, and we might hear and talk to Alex on a podcast episode. So Alex is a sales professional and his why was simply to achieve his sales targets. But his because to build a future for his kids. And I'm not talking about just any future. I'm talking about being able to support his family, to pay for their colleges now, even though it's gonna be 10, 15 years before they get there.
That's what drove him to be the top salesperson within his company. How many Alex's are out there? And I'm gonna get personal. Let's talk about my own journey. Talking about going from being a son to being a CEO.
And my because is very personal. And and we're gonna talk through this on another podcast later. But there is a moment when I was 10 years old that I sat on my bed and I planned out and mapped out everything that I wanted and everything that I needed to happen to me and for me. So being a successful business owner, selling multiple businesses, being that leader in my family, all of that. At 10 years old, I said that that was gonna happen.
Now let's go back to sitting on that bed at 10 years old. But to the right of me is my mom in tears. I'm begging my mom to leave the situation that our family is in. And we're gonna talk more about this. But I'm begging my mom to take my sister and leave, and let me stay home.
Let me deal with the situation that exist. And my mom looked me in my eye with tears in her eyes and said, I can't because you're my because. Because my love for you and your sister, I'll never leave or separate from either of you. And at that moment, I said, okay. My mom is my because.
But it was deeper than just saying my mom's my because. I made my mom a promise. And I said, you know what? I'm gonna make this happen. I'm gonna make sure that you can live a happy life where you don't have to walk on eggshells.
I'm gonna make sure that all the things that you want for you can and will happen. That was the promise that I made my mom. So my, because my reason was that promise. Everything that I did in life from that day forward at 10 years old was all about fulfilling a promise that I made to my mom and then later to my sister and then later to my brother. That I'm gonna be the person that they can count on and believe in and that we're gonna have success as a family, as a unit.
And that promise, I promise you to this day is why I do what I do. And I know I'm not the only one that's ever been in that situation or that's in that situation or that will ever be in that situation. But I promise the difference is I used it. I was fueled. And that's what I need all of you to do is to be fueled by that because.
Because these stories, Sarah's, Alex's, mine, they underline a universal truth. When our actions are powered by our because, success isn't just a possibility. Success is inevitable. Success becomes a result of the actions that we take because of every cause. So let's talk about empowering these actions to elevate your standards today.
And you're gonna hear me talk a lot and and with the interviews that I have, you're gonna hear me talk a lot about standards versus goals. To me, goals are very personal. Standards are your minimum requirements to do what you do. So I need all of you right now to write this down. I need standards in my life.
Not goals, standards. So let's initiate a reflective exercise. Right after this podcast, I want you to take a moment of introspection. Reflect on the pivotal moments in your life. And you might be going through that pivotal moment right now.
What drove you then or what's driving you now? What inspires you? This isn't merely a reminiscence. It's an exploration to uncover your because. That force, that reason, that's been your guiding path.
I want you to write all of those down. Because this is the first step of understanding your true drivers, your true reasons. K? I need all of you to make that promise that you're gonna do that. Second thing, starting today, I want you to journal your journey.
I know a lot of you that are listening or watching her, like, you mean you want me to, like, diary every day? Absolutely. But don't think of it as just a diary. It's your ledger of self awareness. And so for the men that are listening, because I know that there are a lot of you out there, you don't have to be too tough to write down your thoughts.
I promise you, if if you ask me what was one of the things that made me or got me to where I am, it's because I wrote that crap down. Everything that I wanted to do, I wrote down. Every day, if I didn't do something that I needed to, or if I didn't accomplish something, I wrote it down. I needed to see it every day. So you're not too tough to write for the young men that are out there.
You're not too bold. You're not too big to write. Write down your thoughts. Write down your aspirations and write down your challenges. Let this journal become your compass, pointing you towards your inner motivations and shedding light into your unique because.
The second thing, and I just told you about this set because driven standards. That's what we established. Because standards are about raising the bar, not just reaching a target. So today, define your standards for yourself that align with your because. These have to be your benchmarks that challenge you to live in harmony with your deepest motivations.
Break them down into actionable steps and things that you can start implementing right away. The third thing that I need you to do right after this podcast is seek feedback actively. You know, earlier we talked about sharing your because. Engage in a conversation today with someone you trust, whether it's a friend, a family member, a coworker, or even a mentor. And this is something big too.
If you don't have a mentor, go seek mentors out. And if you're looking for a mentor and you really wanna be held accountable, message me. And and we'll interview and talk about if I can be your mentor or not. But I'm all about pushing people to be better because of their because. So, again, seek out someone and discuss what they believe drives you.
Sometimes, other people can see aspects of your because that you might miss. Their perspective can be a catalyst, revealing unseen strengths and motivations. I also need you to implement daily because reminders. From today moving forward, set a daily reminder about your because. It can be a note on your phone.
It could be something that you put on your mirror. It could be an alert or motivational message that gets to you. But let these reminders be your mantra. Keeping your because in front of you and in front of your mind at all times. Remember, our because can't be a weekly thing or a monthly thing.
It literally has to be an everyday thing. So as we reach the end of our journey today, remember, it's not just at the conclusion of this podcast episode. This is the beginning of your journey towards a purpose driven life that's fueled by your because or your reason. This journey is about more than just finding answers. It's about discovering your own unique path and the power that lies within your depths, that lies within your soul.
You know, one of my great friends and my mentor, Les Brown, always says, there's greatness within you. And it took about 4 or 5 conversations for me to really understand. But I promise you, there is greatness inside of you. There is that power that lies in the depths of your because. Your because isn't just a reason, it is your motivation.
It's your guiding star. Is your unwavering light and moments of doubt and uncertainty. You can't give up. You've got to fight in your because it has to be that spark that ignites your passion. The wind that sells you through your challenges and the anchor that grinds you in your triumphs.
So as we close, I'm gonna leave you with this to carry forward. Your because is your superpower. Unleash it. Say that again. Your because is your superpower.
Unleash it. Embrace it in every step that you take, in every decision that you make. Let it be the force that propels you to heights unknown, the voice that leads you to paths unexplored, and that strength that drives you to achieve the unimaginable. Your because is not just part of your story. Your because is your legacy.
It's what makes you, you. So go out there and embrace your because and show the world the power that you hold within you. And, again, your because is your superpower. Go unleash it. I'm Nick Hunt, and we'll talk soon.
